Attack on OPP 2007 East – Day 1 – Morning

So, I am finally here with other Oracle developers who are interested in learning about a bit about PL/SQL and all its quirks. Nothing has happened yet other than registration and less than exciting travel. The details of the even it located the OPP 2007 East website.

The travel here interesting to say the least. I ended up taking two flights, one from NY to DC and then from DC to NJ. However, I had the chance to have both flights to enjoy the conversations of an early aged college girl. At every stop she decided to call every person she new and talk about how she made out with Luke last night, her ex-boyfriend Gnole’s best friend! Drama! Other than that excitement the plane flight was carried by United Express and had no other problems (aside from the tiny sizes of the planes and the even tinier seats in the tiny plane).

Checking into the Sheraton at 11:30pm (registration started at 7:00am the next day) was a bad idea. (I am now running on about five hours of sleep and caffeine). The first room I obtained was a smoking room, complete with masked perfumed smell which almost made me gag. I then obtained another room which has two queen beds. I am using one as my personal closet and one to sleep on. To switch things up I will probably sleep in the other bed tonight! Also, the hotel does not have free wifi or internet access. That means that this post is being sent over the most expensive internet connection ($9.99 / 24hrs) I have ever used. All I need is a brand name and we have the makings of a “premium” product! It would be even better if every web page now said “premium” on it via a forty five degree angle banner on the top right.

As for registration, each attendee was given a slick ‘80s styled racing bag, complete with Oracle logo blazing on the sides, a two inch session guide (YIKES!), and a copy of O’Reily’s pocket guide to PL/SQL. After hauling my load a few feet I entered the continental breakfast room where I spent some time registering and paying for my internet connection and making this post. As of right now I am awaiting the key note speaker which is due to start in less than one minute.

Also, I forgot the cable for my camera! So pictures will be posted after the conference.
